Zez Confrey (1895-1971)

Edward Elzear "Zez" Confrey was the inventor of the "novelty" piano style, which grew out of ragtime and eventually led to the stride style. An exact contemporary of George Gershwin, like Gershwin, Confrey was an accomplished pianist who fused ragtime and jazz with classical elements. Confrey's music is exciting and rewarding and offers pianists accessible music abounding with sparkling virtuosity and delightful humor.
